Our Environmental Impact is important

1% of total global carbon emissions comes from the hospitality sector.

Although the Barracks is such a small business, what we do still matters.

Net Positive takes some thought and investment, however there’s also economic gains to be achieved.

We also hope we can encourage other businesses to do the same.

If the environment is important to you, support businesses that are on this journey.

Pathway to Net Positive

What have we achieved.

  • Installation of solar has reduced our electricity bill to near zero

  • We provide filtered water and glasses to remove any requirements for guests to purchase water plastic bottles

  • We do not provide single use plastics cutlery, plates or cups

  • We provide specially marked bins for 10c refundable cans / bottles, these are sent to collection centers and money raised is donated to green charities

What are we currently doing.

  • We are currently installing 3-phase power to enable us to increase solar and output back into the grid

  • We are seeking quotes to triple our current solar array to ensure we are 100% sufficient, and enable us to export excess renewable solar energy

So what’s next.

  • We will seek quotes to replace all gas heaters within our accommodation and bathrooms with self adjusting electric heaters, enabling us to decommission our gas boiler system

  • Invest in a number of water tanks for all our garden requirements

  • Donate 5% of profits to our favorite charity, Rainforest4 Foundation. https://www.rainforest4.org/

Our charity - Rainforest4 Foundation

Rainforest 4 exists to help protect and restore Australia’s rainforests.

Globally, Rainforests provide habitat for more than half of all species. They regulate weather patterns, sequester carbon from the atmosphere and provide vital ecosystem services upon which humanity depends.

Through their projects, they can deliver real outcomes for wildlife, climate, people and planet. With support they protect and restore rainforests by purchasing land, creating new protected areas, stopping and reversing the impacts of development, and restoring rainforest ecosystems damaged in the past.

Their Mission and Values, Partnership Strategy and Conservation Strategy further outline who they are, what they do, and how they do it.

By working together we can all make the world a better place, so building and maintaining relationships are at the centre of everything.
